Gears of War 3 Entry 3 by Partin-Arts Gears of War 3 Entry 3 by Partin-Arts
I gotta say, I am completely amazed I managed to scrunch in one more character for this, but I am happy I did. Plenty will understandably question why I put in General RAAM for this, given the reason alone that he of course is dead by the end of the 1st game n all, but c'mon, it's General RAAM. What else can I say? He was a cool villain/boss! Originally I had intended to include all the Big Name Figures of the Locusts for this, such as not only RAAM here, but Scorge, the Queen, etc., but hey, sometimes sacrifice is a part of the job with a deadline/due date on the menu. Nonetheless I'm happy for how far I got, and I praise Deviantart, I praise Epic Games, it's fan community, and just as importantly, I praise the contestants for this competition. As always, these things I feel really improve my Photoshop skills. I feel that much faster with it! Good luck to all of you, thanks again, and good luck!

yo nice entry :3 Few things i would suggest though. First things first, it seems you incorrectly scaled the gears on the left! Your first entry has the same gear art and allthough a bit stalky (great for gears) they seem fairly well proportioned (maybe coles arm feels a tad bit disjointed). So keep a good eye when scaling and be sure to hold Shift when you do so you get a uniform scale :3.

Aside from that, youve got a lot of cool character art going on but i feel you could have pushed the colors within the locusts more! maybe thrown in some light tans and browns for the flesh (i know the locust are pretty much white and grey but 100% no color information is a little jarring) maybe work a little bit more with indirect lighting giving their flesh color (you also did a little of that where for example the emmulsion emiting from the guy in the back is sorta lighting the figures in front.)

LAST 2 things i can think of... First off the composition feels a little crammed and right heavy. You've got all these huge figures on one side and it feels like their stealing the show. Perhaps adjusting the scaling could help you work it into a more balanced comp or you could try placing some of the gears closer to camera so that they appear bigger and help balance out the image. The FINAL thing i would mention is the background; it seems a little too detached from the image, and too grey perhaps drawin in some quick mountains or rubbled buildings with some dramatic lighting would seem interesting.

Anyways hope you dont take this critique the wrong way! Your entry is sweet and i think with a few tweaks here and there it could have easily made top 100. Best of luck to you on the next contest :D :D :D

Hello Zeth!

Hey, I wanted to get back to you and say no need for worries. With all due respect I actually took to heart everything you said, especially about composition alone, and took the liberty to study just that a little with a new entry I created; a Starcraft Protoss image. It's in my gallery right now, it's the one featuring the 2 archon types. let me know if it shows, cus it is Big. Enjoy!

Like many others, I think you shoulda been in that top one hundred. Only critique I can offer is I woulda threw a little more detail into the background. Looks great though!
